Coding for ages 10–12: a courier route

A courier must reach house 12. Your child reads a short program, predicts the result and fixes the route. These are WHY2MAKE learning commands using Python syntax, with the result visible on the map.

robot.forward(2)
robot.turn_right()
robot.forward(3)
lamp.on()

First predict, then test

How many steps will the courier take? Where will they turn? Your child predicts the answer before running the program. If the courier passes the destination, change the step count and try again. A later task adds roadworks: find a detour and approach the house, rather than stopping at a junction.

What they learn

Sequences, directions, conditions and loops. robot.forward(2) takes two steps; robot.turn_right() changes direction. A later condition checks for roadworks before moving. A mistake becomes an observation that informs the next attempt.

What a session looks like

This route is being prepared for 1 January 2027. The lab under development places the editor, map and Run button together, with hints from Hush. It uses a limited set of learning commands with Python syntax, not a full Python 3 runtime. Computers and tablets are the intended devices.

What parents see

The planned parent dashboard will show projects and progress: building a sequence, spotting an error and explaining a fix. It is not open yet. Today you can try the public night-light exercise together; it takes a few minutes and needs no registration.

Frequently asked questions

Is this already full Python?

No. These are WHY2MAKE learning commands that use familiar Python syntax. Children first explore sequences, conditions and loops; a full Python environment is a separate later step.

What if my child doesn’t know English?

Only a few command words are needed. Explanations accompany them, and the courier’s movement shows what they mean.

Do we need to install anything?

Public examples need only a browser. The full Academy is being prepared for computers and tablets; phones are intended for the parent dashboard.

Opening on 1 January 2027. Routes for ages 7–9, 10–12 and 13–15 are in development. Try a first exercise without registering.
